Becoming a father has had a wide variety of wonderful effects. I've been thinking a lot about my son growing up and learning about the world. When I was 12, I asked my father, "If you were going to write the bible, what would you write?" He said, "As my son, you know exactly what I would write. I've been writing it all of your life, by teaching you about the world." I knew then that having kids is like writing the bible. It's pretty cool. Anyway, my idea is this: I want to have a list of questions that summarize what it means to be human, and I want to ask anyone who will answer. People can choose whichever questions they like, or all of them, and take all the time they need. This could become a book or a website, anonymous or not, but ideally just a database of humanity. A record of how we lived and what we felt. Can you please look at the questions below and give me feedback? Are there redundancies? Am I missing anything terribly important? Please take a few minutes to read the list and let me know your thoughts. Feel free to show this to anyone you'd like; I know I have left many people out because of out-dated e-mail addresses. FYI - I'm dedicating this project to Danielle Lauren, director of The 11/11/11 Project, for her dedication to documenting human enthusiasm, and to my wife for showing me that we're worth remembering. |
